Question on Alpen Binoculars and optics?
Camille Asked:
Why do some alpen binoculars, telescopes and scopes on some military rifles have like an orange/ redish colour tint on the glass lens in them?
I have been wondering about this for a long time...
is it because it just looks cool?, reduces reflection from sun? or does is assist camouflage???
Reply:
Lenses are generally coated with anti reflection coatings. These consist of layers of thin films which use the wave properties of light to reduce reflections. The result is that the lens transmits more light and there is less glare. The coating on the front surface of the lens also reduces get prescription drugs without prescription reflections that may be seen by the enemy.
The coatings appear red because there is a variation of reflectivity across the visual spectrum. It just happens that the reflectivity is higher in the red for the particular coating used.
