Binoculars? Good for a beginner?

Would buying a pair of Binoculars be really helpful for a beginner? I really want to get into Astronomy for a hobby. It's just I don't want to buy a pair of binoculars only to find that i don't enjoy what i see etc.

Can you visually get good views through them? I'm hoping to see some globular star clusters(?) and/or planets in our solar system aswell as some of the bigger things outside of our solar system. Would i achieve these with a pair of 20x80 celestron skymaster binoculars?
