I am a long time Alaskan hunter, trapper, and varmint shooter.
If you think the 223 Rem tears up a coyote – the 22-250 turns them into a fine red mist.
In Alaska, our coyotes have a totally awesome fur that sells for over $100 pelt. Up here the 17HMR and 22 Hornet are the prefered calibers – an average shooter can easily tag a coyote at 200+ yards and get a one shot clean kill. A skilled marksman can easily take a coyote to 400 yards and get a one shot clean kill. Hit properly in the shoulder you get one entrance hole and no exit. Hit in the heart, you get a small entrance and a small exit hole. Very nice calibers. A third caliber to consider is the FN 5.7×28mm – this is a very good varmint cartridge with 22 Hornet like performance in a semi-auto pistol/rilfe. But, they are quite expensive.
Me – I would recommend a Ruger stainless M77 in 22 Hornet and mount a BSA 'Sweet 223' or 'Sweet 17' scope and calibrate the BDC for the Hornet. The Sweet 223 has more elevation than the Sweet 17. With practice I had no problems hitting coffee can sized targets at 500 yards with a similar rifle – and I used it for 10+ years. ( I just sold my Hornet and now use a FN 5.7×28mm pistol for 50-200 yard varmints and an AR-15 for 200 to 600 yard varmints on my trap line.
Before you buy the rifle – look over the ammo. Most calibers are totally sold out with no stock in sight. However, 17HMR, 22 Hornet and 5.7×28mm are on all the store shelves where I live. 223, 22-250 and 243 Win have beens sold out for months. No sense buying a rifle you can't get ammo for.
Hope this helps

my choice would be the .204 ruger. why pick the .243 if you already have a nice deer rifle. so go with a .204 ruger or maybe a .223
er, this be thee CAMERA place
